Home-Start East Highland

There for parents when they need us most, because childhood can't wait

Volunteering

There are several ways that you can help Home-Start East Highland in a voluntary capacity:

  • by supporting a family as a home-visiting volunteer
  • by joining the Trustee Board
  • by helping with fundraising

Home Visiting Volunteers

Home-Start East Highland’s home-visiting volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents themselves or have parenting experience and are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding. All volunteers attend a preparation course before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit. Our volunteers offer their time and friendship and accept a parent as they are.

“Home-Start has been a  huge  help for me and my family with helping me

manage my anxiety and getting out the house and getting the house organised. The support I have received has been incredible and I am very grateful for the time and support I have been given.”

HSEH Family

“Listening to someone share their story, has a simple y et powerful effect on them. Because all we really want is for someone to hear us and keep us company a while.

This is what I love about being a Home-Start volunteer.”

Management Committee

The Home-Start East Highland’s Management Committee is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds such as law, social care, HR, fundraising, education and business. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the family support work we undertake and a willingness to be involved and active in the running of the charity. The committee ensures correct governance and is responsible for the financial security of the organisation.

“As we journey through the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for services such as Home-Start East Highland has never been greater. As a Community Midwife in Easter Ross, Home-Start is the only locally accessible service I have available to me to support women and their families, particularly when experiencing social isolation and mild to moderate perinatal mental health issues. The referral process is simple and concise, and women and their families tell me they are contacted and matched with a volunteer promptly. Feedback from the volunteers and co-ordinators is invaluable in my role to aid completion of wellbeing assessments and antenatal plans”.
